Flitwick Gardeners’ Association wishes

all our members a

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Syds Titbits – December 2015

As another year closes many of the committee members will be involved in stock taking and the following week receiving the bulk delivery. This will then be closely followed by the potato delivery which will then have to be weighed up into the individual units. All to be ready for the first week of trading in February.

We were therefore disappointed to the negative response for our appeal for help. We shall do our best to provide the best service we can but if you arrive and the Seedbox is closed you should now know why. This is more likely to happen on a Saturday and we shall do our best to let you know the week prior.

We are still looking for assistance and if you can help training is available;

In the meantime please note the existing Leisure Centre is due to close on the evening of 5th February and is due to re open on Monday 8th so there may be a high volume of traffic over the weekend.

On behalf of all the members of the Executive Committee we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a good gardening year for 2016.

Chairman

Autumn Show Report

Once again we were blessed with good weather on show day and there was quite a few people bringing in vegetables and flowers to exhibit. By the end of staging the hall was filled with a record number of exhibits, 177 in total, and the two people doing the checking in took to a quiet corner of the hall to recover leaving the judge to try and complete his judgments within the hour. Not only were there some excellent flower exhibits but 3 pumpkins weighing over 95lbs, some seriously heavy marrows, cabbages, and carrots and 5 foot long Tromboncino Squashes.

When the public came to look around there were some excellent cakes for them to enjoy. Thanks to everyone that helped at the show, exhibited or came to look around.

FGA Quiz

18 teams took part in our annual quiz with questions ranging from the Wombles to Film Musicals and lots of other subjects in between. Congratulations to one of the teams from the Women's Institute for their win on the evening and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. My thanks to everyone who helped, making the evening run smoothly.

Show Secretary

Potato orders

If you have not yet placed an order for potatoes come to the Seed Box on a Saturday afternoon. If we are there (most likely) we can provide an order form and take your order.

Membership Renewal

Membership renewals are due by the start of the year. As usual FGA will be extending the deadline but please make sure you renew tour membership on your next visit to the Seed Box.
